Kath Duncan #Liberty #TheLastQueenOfScotland
Review of Liberty by Ray Barron-Woolford
by Jay Wolfe, Editor of The Wolfian Press Review 2018
Liberty is a neat little book, mixing an excellent overview of history with the dramatisation of the central events of the story. Mixed in with interesting historical photographs and newspaper cuttings we first get to see Deptford's history and its place in this narrative, and then the driving forces for the events as they unfold.
During the Depression of the 1930s, the unemployed organised themselves into the National Unemployed Workers Movement (NUWM) who arranged marches, speeches, and demonstrations alongside other workers' organisations.
Kath Duncan's place in this history is as a school teacher, Communist, and speaker in 1930s Deptford.
Ray very skillfully mixes table-top scenes with Hansard reports to produce a drama that ranges from plotting peaceful protest to discussions in parliament, to charges of breaches of the peace, the prison governor's office, and a judicial panel.
Through this we are taken on a journey charting the rise of recognised civil rights within English law (one would say British, but must be mindful that Scotland and Northern Ireland have different legal systems).
Kath's strength, of purpose and of character, are evident, as is the dilemma she posed for the authorities. Ray brings these issues sharply into focus in a book whose themes continue to resonate and have sharp relevance to this day.

Hisham Al-Omeisy the voice of #Yemen has been released . Still many more kidnapped without charge, but this Campaign so proud to have been part #Freehisham #Freehishamalomeisy
Activism is sometimes a long hard struggle, but today my friend Hisham Al-Omeisy has been released after being kidnapped on 14 August 2017.
Many of you are aware i have lead the campaign in UK to secure his release written two articles in The London Economic to get him out , lead the Tuesday Global twitter storm to secure his release and insure his profile is to big to ignore and helped get almost 20,000 of you to follow him on twitter in solidarity , so that being kidnapped for tweeting War crimes by all sides, we would continue to share his tweets and Demand #FreeHishamTODAY this image, is so emotional to see, as he , with a bit more weight hugs his kids in #Yemen . Welcome home Hisham . We will continue to demand the USA and UK Gov STOP selling arms to bomb #Yemen and that we do whatever it takes to #SaveYemen

#Carillion Why do we still NOT protect workers pensions? The real scandal behind this story Greed and Privatisation
Well i was starting to think 2018 could not be any worse than 2017, but then i remembered, we should start seeing the staggering numbers of people evicted this year due to #universalcredit which should be welcome, the idea that we get one simple payment, not unlike a basic income that many of us have argued in the age of robots, is the way forward and yet this is a tory gov driving this agenda, so is clearly designed to punish instead of support , the cost to house ever more people in hostels etc beggars belief and today we have #carillion going bust , the cause as usual GREED and PRIVATISATION , Greed because the people who have trashed the company, the pensions of the workers and entire local communities economic survival will still get staggering sums of money in THEIR protected pensions and THEIR huge pay offs . I have consistently argued since the abuse of power with Maxwell at The Mirror years ago private business should NEVER be allowed to have anything to do with workers pensions. it is NOT their cash to play with.
It seems strange that we have laws to insure tenants rental deposits are held in separate SAFE business accounts and yet peoples life savings invested in their pensions is about as secure as your chance of winning the Lottery.. Why is no campaign and NO political party demanding change on this alone? Why are WE expected to bail out a private company with OUR cash? . This is a company that treats its staff badly, should never have been awarded so many contracts and has a ton of PFI contracts that bleed our NHS and Schools dry. Let it go bust. NO pay of to its bosses and bring back the labour force to build the Council homes we need and lets have Governors and Local Councils back running OUR schools for community good NOT private greed.
